Atchafalaya Basin Paddle

  • Bayou Benoit Landing Bayou Benoit Levee Road Saint Martinville, LA, 70582 United States (map)

Launching out of Bayou Benoit, this guided family paddle in the Atchafalaya River Basin nick-named the "American Amazon" due to the diversity of wildlife is open to ages 4 and up + parents.  Experience what is left of what was once thousands of acres of ancient cypress/tupelo forest, see Ospreys dive from their nests into the water to catch fish, and spot Alligators sunning themselves on logs.  Learn why this area is so special and what we can do to protect it for generations to come.

Read "The Unkindest Cut", an article in The Advocate where Mollie Day interviews Dean Wilson with The Atchafalaya Basinkeeper who explains the plight of the Atchafalaya.
