Outdoor Adventure Kids (OAK) Family Adventure and Nature Education Program
Mission: To reconnect youth to the natural world and promote environmental stewardship through participation in recreational outdoor activities and education of natural science phenomenon, natural history, and identification of local flora and fauna.
Explore your world, learn about Louisiana natural sciences, and gain respect and appreciation for the plants and animals with which we coexist. OAK offers year-round opportunities for children and families to visit various Louisiana trails and waterways. We organize and provide all equipment for all Outdoor Adventure Kids guided family hikes and paddles in various State Parks, Nature/Interpretive Centers and the Kisatchie Naitonal Forest.
Open to ages 4 and up. At least one parent or guardian is required to attend.
“Passion is lifted from the earth itself by the muddy hands of the young; it travels along grass-stained sleeves to the heart. If we are going to save environmentalism and the environment, we must also save an endangered indicator species: the child in nature.”
― Richard Louv, Last Child in the Woods: Saving Our Children from Nature-Deficit Disorder
Build self-confidence and a foster an appreciation of nature!
Learning the names of trees, flowers and animals is the first step in forming a relationship and caring for our natural surroundings.
Spending time outdoors can significantly improve the health and well being of our children.
LASOAR supports State Parks to preserve our natural surroundings for future generations to enjoy. We work closely with Interpretive Rangers, local scientists, Master Naturalists, Master Gardeners, and other outdoor enthusiasts who share their knowledge and contribute to the quality of each OAK trip by providing instruction and assistance with identification of natural phenomenon throughout the trip.
